Dal

Today I had the pleasure of learning how to cook a plate of delicious dal. We used canary yellow chana dal; a brilliant, blazing yellow plate of sunshine.

Above are the ingredients to creating this delicacy.
Dal (lentils)
Onion
Garlic
Tomato (half)
Potatoes
Spices: coriander, cumin, mango spice

First you soak the dal in water for at least 20 minutes so that it softens better during the cooking process.
Bring water to a boil and start to cook the dal in it so it begins to soften. Add the full potatoes to the mix once the dal and water mixture becomes cloudy...

Heat up some butter in the pan and add a tablespoon of cumin so it starts to cook slowly (hmmm ... that heavenly waft of buttered cumin).
Then, throw the chopped onion in the pan, and shortly after it becomes translucent, add the garlic. Finally, add the chopped tomato and cook it for a minute.
Next, the ensemble of spices. See below!

After 3 minutes, add the lovely mix to the cooking dal and let it all simmer together for 10 minutes.

Add a generous portion of dal to a bowl of rice and... ta-da!

Concerto is over.... enjoy the show :)
